UPASANA : An Auroville based conscious clothing studio (website review)

Upasana’s mission is to create conscious sustainable fashion whilst taking care of the environment. For Upasana design is creative, problem-solving. Any problem, be it post-tsunami trauma, farmer suicides, garbage littering, weavers losing their jobs, they look at social issues as a space to exercise for change.

THE LAYOUT 

the layout of their website looks very minimalistic , user- friendly and direct .their is different sections for men's and women's wear with sub sections in the drop down menu. 

its interactive as you can literally chat with them . 

Though it has a very simple layout but its very informative about sustainability which is the main motive behind the brand.

they have showcased their upcoming summer collection by adding catalogue pictures and video with sneak peak . 

you can also see the ethical side of this brand through the FUND RAISER FOR ARTISANS that they have mentioned on their website.

subtle colour palletes, we can see a lot of beige and earthy tones . The designs are mostly modern or contemporary. the shades and hues give a very breezy feel.

- it would look attractive to someone who wants to keep a little bit of tradition alive in their fashion sense and still look modern.

THE PRODUCTS 

vast variety of products can be seen here . like tops ,shirts ,  t-shirts , bottoms , sarees, etc.

mostly traditional handicrafts are seen here. so if you are looking for a traditional look and still look modern you should definitely give it a try !!

THE PRICE 

They explains that their prices are a bit higher in order to encourage sustainable consumption and decrease the throwing away of clothes. They said that higher priced clothes make the consumer more hesitant in throwing away clothes and more conscious of what they are investing in.

Through the names of some of their collections, we can see how important sustainability and ethics are to Upasana. “Upcycling Artwear”, “Conscious Luxury”, and “Cool N’ Conscious” are all lines that are available at Upasana. It is a unique brand in the fact that makes sure that everything from the raw products and farmers, to the environment and lives of those making the clothes, are impacted in a positive and ethical way. Their focus is not only on selling their own items but on the social problems within India. Their projects help to preserve and support local communities and the lands that they live on.
